Getting Started: Why I chose Polyglots & My First Steps

Introduction ✨

Hello community! In this first stage of my project, my goal was to understand where I wanted to contribute within WordPress and set up everything, I needed to get started. This included choosing my contribution area, creating my WordPress.org account, and preparing the tools I’ll be using throughout the process.

Development ✨

I decided to focus on the Polyglots area because I truly enjoy learning English and improving my language skills. At the same time, I wanted my contribution to have a real impact, so translating content into Spanish (Costa Rica) felt like the perfect way to help others in the community.
Before starting, I already had an advanced level understanding of English and cero experience using WordPress, but also I had never contributed before. This made the process both exciting and a bit challenging.
To begin, I created my account on WordPress.org. The process was simple, but one challenge I faced was choosing a username that I liked and that was available. After a few tries, I finally found one that worked. The main tools I identified for this project are:

1

basic knowledge of English and Spanish

2

WordPress.org account

3

browser and internet access

Once my account was ready, I explored my profile and became familiar with how contributions are tracked.

In this first step, I learned how to get started as a contributor in WordPress and how important it is to choose an area that aligns with your interests.
I also learned that even simple steps, like creating an account, are part of a bigger journey in contributing to an open-source community.
This is my first post out of eight, so stay tuned for the upcoming ones and join me on this adventure 🚀
