Hello! In this final post, I want to share what I learned throughout this project, what I would improve, and how my contribution connects with the global WordPress community.
Throughout this experience, I learned that contributing to WordPress is much more than just completing tasks. It requires patience, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn from feedback.
One of the most important lessons for me was understanding that translation is not just about language, but about context and consistency. At the beginning, I thought translating was simply writing what sounded natural, but I realized that it is also about following standards and adapting to the correct tone for each locale.
Another key takeaway was the importance of feedback. When some of my strings were not approved at first, it helped me identify mistakes and improve. In the end, this process allowed me to grow and achieve a much better final result.
If I could improve something, I would:
- Spend more time reviewing translation guidelines at the beginning
- Pay closer attention to glossary and locale rules earlier in the process
- Double-check my translations before submitting them
Connection to the WordPress Community
This project helped me understand how my work connects to a global open-source community. Even though my contribution was focused on Spanish (Costa Rica), it has a real impact because, as I mentioned in the last post:
- It helps Spanish-speaking users better understand and use WordPress themes
- It contributes to making WordPress more inclusive and accessible
- It supports a collaborative effort where people from all over the world contribute
This experience was very meaningful both personally and professionally.
Personally, I strengthened my English skills and gained confidence in my ability to learn and improve.
Professionally, I developed attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and learned how to contribute to a real-world open-source project.
Overall, this journey showed me that with consistency and dedication, it is possible to make a real impact. I’m proud of what I achieved and motivated to continue contributing in the future.
Hey WordPress, thanks for being part of this journey and for accompanying me throughout this adventure 🚀🌍
